Neuro-Development (Neurotherapy, Neurofeedback, EEG Biofeedback)

Also known as neurotherapy, neurofeedback and EEG biofeedback, neuro-development utilizes learning strategies to teach a client to control his or her brain wave patterns. This process enables an individual to learn how to change physiological activity for the purposes of improving health and performance. The characteristic that distinguishes Neurofeedback, therefore, from other biofeedback is a focus on the central nervous system and the brain.

Brain Map

Training generally consists of placing a couple of electrodes on the scalp and one or two electrodes on the earlobes. Then EEG equipment provides real-time, instantaneous audio and visual feedback to the client about his or her brainwave activity. No electrical current is put into the brain.

The brain’s electrical activity is simply relayed to the computer. Ordinarily we cannot reliably influence our brainwave patterns because we lack awareness of them. However, when we can see a representation of our brainwave activity on a computer screen a few thousandths of a second after they occur, it gives us the ability to influence and change them through a process of operant conditioning. Electrode placements can be determined based on quantitative EEG brain mapping assessments, or in relation to areas of the brain associated with various functional roles.

We are now literally able to recondition and retrain the brain. At first, the changes are short-lived, but the changes gradually become more enduring and with continuing feedback, coaching, and practice, improved brain functioning can usually be achieved in most people and the changes are enduring.

By learning new brain wave patterns, clients significantly decrease symptoms of brain dysfunction in thinking, emotions, and behavior, thus supporting desired physiological changes.

Neurofeedback training (NFT) has its foundations in basic and applied neuroscience as well as data-based clinical practice. It takes into account behavioral, cognitive, and subjective aspects as well as brain activity. It is an evidence-based intervention.

At BrainTrackers™, we specialize in Left-Right Brain Behavior Modification, a process that is truly customized to an individual’s subconscious learning preferences.

What Can Neuro-Development Do?

  • Enhance athletic/artistic/job performance
  • Improve performance on mental activities
  • Help sustain concentration or attention
  • Improve organization skills
  • Reduce forgetfulness
  • Reduce impulsivity

Some people need more practice to learn to control their brain patterns than others, so the number of sessions required to achieve the desired results will vary. The ability to control and sustain new EEG patterns is usually achieved in thirty sessions (of approximately one-hour each); many will begin to see progress much sooner.
